Qurayyat fort
The beginning of our trip will be in Qurayyat Fort !!
Qurayyat Fort is located in the center of Qurayyat State, and it is considered one of the most important historical landmarks in the region. The fort was built by Sayyid Saeed bin Khalfan Al Busaidi, during the reign of Sayyid Saeed bin Sultan Al Busaidi, and this fort witnessed many historical events throughout the ancient history of Oman.
The fort was built with stones, mud and saruj, and it is characterized by a beautiful engineering design. Qurayyat Fort is a rectangular building consisting of one floor, and it includes a two-storey tower, and the entrance to the fort is located at the eastern facade of the fort. The roof of the fort is made of Kandal wood, which is characterized by its toughness, and in front of the fort there is a group of cannons that were used on holidays, occasions and the month of Ramadan as sound cannons. The fort was designed to meet two purposes: to be a seat of wali , and the second purpose: for housing, as many governors and judges followed this fortress, so they took it as a place for judgment and the separation of disputes in addition to being the home of the wali. Nowadays, the fort witnesses the ceremony that the Wali holds to receive well-wishers on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha; Where the people and elders of the state go to the fort after the Eid prayers to congratulate the governor on the occasion of Eid. In the past, the arts of razah were held in front of the fort in the early days of the Eid. It also represents an important point for the national marches that are held by the people of the state on various national occasions, through which the people of the state express their love for the country and the leader.
It is worth noting that in 2013 the fort was restored, and it became a museum in which many Omani historical artifacts, handicrafts and heritage books are displayed, and it was furnished according to what the old Omani house was, and there are a number of guides who provide a full explanation of the history of this fort ... all this is a contribution from the Ministry of Heritage and Culture in encouraging tourism and preserving heritage.
